Individual Counselling.
When you come to counselling it gives you the opportunity to explore just what is happening in your life. It is a journey towards growth and finding peace of mind.
Reaching out to a counsellor is the first step towards change and taking control of your life and to becoming the person that you want to be. It can really help to talk to a person that you do not know, without judgement.
Counselling can help you with many things including conflict, depression, sadness, self-esteem and increasing resilience.
Managing Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety can be a general response to feeling stressed. It can also be triggered by specific events of situations. Anxiety is often accompanied by a body based (somatic) panic response.
Anxiety can be characterised by feelings of worry or uneasiness. Often your body and mind will respond automatically to a challenging situation, your heart rate increases, your breathing quickens, and your sympathetic nervous system releases a surge of stress hormones. This is also known as the fight, freeze or flight response. Once the stressful situation has passed, physical symptoms of anxiety will usually decrease. There are a number of evidence-based counselling techniques that are effective, in particular Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I can help you manage anxiety and stress levels and achieve a more balanced life.
Topics
Managing Depression
Depression affects one in six of us, common symptoms include concentration difficulties, sleep disturbances, pessimism, lack of motivation, crying, irritability, social withdrawal, loss of sex drive, changes in appetite and suicidal thoughts.
The goal of depression counselling is to identify the underlying causes of your depression by working together to examine thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are contributing to your mood. We will develop coping strategies to help you manage your low moods and move forward with a more positive outlook on life.
Family Counselling
The goal of family counselling is to help families build strong, supportive and loving relationships where conflict is managed, communication is effective, and respect and tolerance is essential.
Family counselling can be highly successful when there are circumstantial changes within the family. Some family members may cope with challenging or changing situations quite well and others may need help to make sense of what is happening in their life.
Parenting teens
Parenting can be the most rewarding role you’ll ever have in your life. However, it can also be incredibly challenging, frustrating and confusing. With our busy lives we often lack real connection with our children, and this can lead to missed opportunities. Juggling parenting, work, finances and raising children may stop us from being truly present in their lives. Parenting counselling can help with coping as a sole parent, help you and your teen recognise emotions and responses, identify strategies for managing teen behaviour, manage the difficulties with step-parenting.
It can help you develop consistent strategies to reduce conflict at home and clearly outline behavioural expectations and implementing boundaries and consequences for unsuitable behaviour.
Mindful Life
Mindfulness relates to how present you are at any given time and about being aware of what is going on around you. It involves being fully aware of your thoughts and actions at the very time that they are happening. Mindfulness counselling may help you with developing more meaningful relationships, learning to be fully aware of your choices, understanding your thoughts and how they affect your actions, becoming more aware of harmful behavioural patterns, focusing on the present moment and understanding the effect on you. By intentionally paying attention you can notice and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings and develop better relationships.
